This course satisfies the requirements for a Food Safety Supervisor in the Health and Community Services sector, under the Qld Food Act 2006.

 

 

A Food Safety Supervisor is required to take a lead role in supervising food safety in your food enterprise.

Anyone, including the business owner, licence holder, employee or an external contractor can be a Food Safety Supervisor for an enterprise provided they meet the required competencies and are reasonably available at all times the business is operating.

Apart from holding the required competencies, Health & Community Services must also:
• have the ability to supervise food handling practices in the food business
• be reasonably available at all times the food business is operating; and
• have the authority to supervise and give instructions to food handlers.

This course consists of the following three training units which will equip you with the skill and knowledge to understand basic food safety practices, supervise day-to-day implementation of the food safety program, support others to implement the plan, monitor and control food safety hazards and respond to non-conformance to the safety program.

Specifically, each unit will cover:

1) HLTFS207B Follow basic food safety practices
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required for basic food safety practices including personal hygiene, conduct when working in a food service environment, basic pest control requirements and basic food disposal requirements. It describes the most basic level of competence required by any person in any industry who directly handles food.


2) HLTFS309B Oversee the day-to-day implementation of food safety in the workplace
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to supervise the day-to-day implementation of the food safety program across the entire enterprise, process or food handling area. It also involves supporting others to implement the requirements of the food safety plan.

3) HLTFS310B Apply and monitor food safety requirements
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required monitor and control food safety hazards and respond to non-conformance as required by the food safety program.

Who should attend
The nominated Food Safety Supervisor in health or community services enterprises such as a hospital, child care centre, nursing home, hostel, meals on wheels, caterer for a hospital and nursing home can be a Business owner, Licence holder, Employee or an external contractor.

Online: all 3 units are available online, train where and when it suits you. A blend of online and workplace assessments make this training both time and cost efficient. Online trainer support available 365 days per year
Classroom:
delivered by a trainer with a learner guide workbook and assessments completed both in class and in the workplace.

On-Site: Bring the course on-site for a group on a date suitable to you and our trainer will lead your staff through the content and assessments completed in class. We can customize the class to your food safety program.

Certification
On successful completion of this course participants will receive a nationally recognized Statement of Attainment listing the units competencies attained.

Background
These training units support the implementation of national and state food safety legislation and regulations and is based on the national Food Safety Guideline Competency Standards.
